Why can't I edit the contact type?

If you have added the cases for your contact(client), you can edit all other information in the contact except the "contact type". This is to prevent orphaned records like Cases.

If you have not added a case for your client yet, you can convert the "contact type" from the client to any other type like a lead or a prospect.
